The British Touring Car Championship is a touring car racing series held each year in the United Kingdom, currently organized and administered by ToCA. It was established in 1958 as the British Saloon Car Championship and was renamed as the British Touring Car Championship in 1987.[1] The championship has been run to various national and international regulations over the years including FIA Group 2, FIA Group 5, FIA Group 1, FIA Group A, FIA Super Touring and FIA Super 2000. A lower-key Group N series for production cars ran from 2000 until 2003.
The championship was initially run with a mix of classes, divided according to engine capacity, racing simultaneously. This often meant that a driver who chose the right class could win the overall championship without any chance of overall race wins, thereby devaluing the title for the spectators – for example, in the 1980s Chris Hodgettswon two overall titles in a small Toyota Corolla prepared by Hughes Of Beaconsfield, at that time a Mercedes-Benz/Toyota main dealer when most of the race wins were going to much larger cars; and while the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500s were playing at the front of the field, Frank Sytner took a title in a Class B BMW M3 and John Cleland's first title was won in a small Class C Vauxhall Astra.

Since the 2014 season onwards all cars are built to the same NGTC regulations. First introduced in 2011 for an initial 5 year period, these technical regulations are designed to dramatically reduce the design, build and running costs of the cars and engines. Only NGTC cars are now eligible to compete in the BTCC. TOCA extended these regulation for a further 6 years from 2016.
NGTC allows independent teams to compete on a level playing field against manufacturer-backed efforts by keeping costs down whilst at the same time rewarding precise engineering and all-important split-second strategy.
The foundation for NGTC is an emphasis on some common components, so turbo, wastegate, intercoolers, ECU, instrumentation and dash, power management system, six-speed sequential gearbox, fuel tanks, differential, subframe, steering, brakes, clutch, wheels, dampers and suspension, which dramatically drives down costs for teams looking to compete in one of the world's most attractive motor sport arenas.

Modeled after the 2 Litre Touring Car category introduced in the British Touring Car Championship in 1990, FIA Class 2 was designed to put a stop to the tremendously expensive homologation process and increasingly complex designs seen in Group A. Ironically, despite this conservative attitude, the class would come to be known as "Super Touring".
BMW had entered a two door version of its new E36-generation 3-Series in 1992, badged as a 318iS despite the two liter engine. This was done out of sheer necessity, as the 320i was a six-cylinder car, and BMW wanted to use the ready-made S14 four cylinder engine from the E30 M3, instead of trying to convert the big, long and heavy six into a competitive race motor.
The updated 320i picked up right where its predecessor left off, with its S42B20 engine derived from the road M42. The racing version of the M42 engine is called the S42 and was used in BMW's 320 4-door touring car, participating in the German Super Tourenwagen Cup. Compared with the M42, the S42 has individual throttle bodies, the displacement increased to 1,999 cc (122.0 cu in), two fuel injectors per cylinder, an increased compression ratio and a different cylinder head. The valve cover and airbox were made from carbon fiber and the lubrication system used a dry sump. In 1995, the initial version of the S42 engine produced 224 kW (300 bhp), increasing to 235 kW (315 bhp) for the final version in 1997.

Those type of cars usually used very stiff springs that, to maintain a good contact with ground, were coupled with some tender springs. To simulate this in AC, I used the equivalent rate as main spring, that cannot be changed since it has a non influencing variation, and I let you choose the "main" rate with Bumpstops. So change them accordingly to your driving style because they have a quite big impact on handling.
Primera adopted 3 ways dampers all around: 2 for BUMP (High and Low speed) and just 1 for REBOUND so you'll find just 1 rebound bar in setup because High and Low speed are overlayered as their description will. In general you want to increase REBOUND when you increase the relative spring rate or when you want to increase the stability on that corner/axle. Remember that dampers only act on transient so expect some changes on turn in mainly.*
The Nissan Primera P11 GT was soon prepared to race starting with JTCC in 1996 till the BTCC in 1998. It was designed by Ray Mallock Limited, and had quite a bit of success in the BTCC between 1998 and 1999. In 1998, David Leslie and Laurent Aiello dominated, winning most of the races in the championship for Nissan, with Aiello being crowned champion. Privately owned Primera, fielded by Matt Neal, won the independent cup in 2000.
Under BTCC evolution it had the famous SR20DE engine tuned to peak power around 8500 rpm where there was the limiter for regulations. Much effort was given to the suspension design since in 1999 they couldn't take the 4WD version to race and so they had to use the rear multi-link beam axle instead of the McPherson. Beside that, within the opponents, the Primera had one of the worst drag coefficient; so, to maintain a good aerodynamic efficiency, in race trim it had one of the less effective rear wing. However a very well shaped front wing assured the car very good handling and stability.

In 1994, TWR returned to the BTCC, allied with Volvo. This partnership was responsible for the controversial 850 Estate racing car, which was only rendered uncompetitive when the FIA allowed the use of aerodynamic aids in 1995. TWR then built and ran the works 850 Saloon with six wins in 1995 and five wins in 1996, and S40 securing one win in 1997 in the BTCC.
In 1998, TWR Volvo won the British Touring Car Championship with Rickard Rydell driving the S40. TWR also aided in designing the road-going Volvo C70 coupe and convertible.
